How we started

The African Community Centre was founded by Mrs. Uzo Iwo in 2003. The proposal for the centre was based on a survey of Africans living in throught Wales, which revealed that Africans living in the area would welcome a centre where Africans would be able to meet socially and participate in promoting African culture in the community.

Since then, with the help of many organisations and a lot of hard work, we've gone from strength to strength.

The African Community Centre welcomes all people, especially Africans born in Africa or in the diaspora (e.g. African Caribbean, British African etc.) who are currently resident in Wales. We aim to provide advice and support to enable you to better settle into your local community.

We strive to provide a pleasant and professional environment that is challenging, rewarding, creative and respectful of ideas and individuals.

We run educational programmes allowing people of all ages and abilities to feel included; English language, citizenship, and info on various health issues among others.

The Centre also hosts a number of social and cultural events to raise its profile, to get everyone taking part, and to have fun!
